Michael Turner got his start at Top Cow Studios, a division of Image Comics. He began drawing backgrounds for Marc Silvestri and by drawing some CyberForce Trading Cards. His first real body of work was with the three issue limited Ballistic mini-series. That series showed that he was a star. He then co-created the book that launched him into super-stardom – Witchblade! Witchblade was an immediate hit for Top Cow and people quickly started learning the name Michael Turner. Michael had a run of 25 issues on Witchblade (with the exception of issue #24).
During the time Michael was drawing Witchblade, Top Cow had acquired the license for the popular video game, Tome Raider. Michael drew a cross-over between the two characters that was a huge hit and came with variant covers there were highly sought after.
Michael follow Witchblade up with another hit. His own creation titled "Fathom". Fathom launched with huge numbers, but it was during this time that Michael learned of his disease. During this time, books started shipping sporadically, but his fans understood and it was amazing he was still working while going through surgeries and chemo.
When it came back and had seemingly beat the cancer, he along with Friend Frank Mastromauro, decided they would be leaving Top Cow and starting their own new company and they’d be taking Fathom their as their flagship character.
